Edward Maurice "Ed" Mezvinsky, the father of Marc Mezvinsky, who Chelsea Clinton married in 2010, and his wife, had written to the president asking for a pardon while he was being investigated for stealing millions from investors and friends, the politico.com story said.
At the time, the former Iowan congressman hadn't even been indicted by the feds in a Ponzi scheme case, politico.com reported.
It was not clear, from recently released documents, that the president even saw the letters, which may have come too late, politico.com reported.
Clinton left office in January 2001 just eight days after the pardon requests were received, and Mevzinsky, having been formally indicted in March 2001 and later convicted of fraud, ended up serving five years in federal prison, according to Wikipedia and the politico.com report.
