The photo of the former presidential candidate, secretary of state and first lady was taken by fellow passenger Caitlin Quigley, who posted it on Twitter, while Clinton was flying from Boston to New York Friday, media reports said.
Quigley is a communications manager with Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in Brooklyn, according to her LinkedIn account.
Clinton, who has lived in Chappaqua since the late 1990s, had been reading a paperback book and was captured glancing at a headline in USA Today that read: “Pence used personal email in office.”
She was sitting in coach with Huma Abedin, who was vice chair of her failed bid for president in 2016. Abedin was Clinton’s deputy chief of staff when she was U.S. secretary of state.
The photo has gone viral on Twitter and social media.
Bedford resident and now president Donald J. Trump and Pence had both attacked Clinton during the campaign for the White House, saying that she broke the law by using her family’s private email server for official communications while she was U.S. secretary of state, rather than the State Department accounts maintained on federal servers.
Pence and the White House have maintained that the former governor broke no laws and that he had legal counsel review the account and archive emails that were directly related to state business.
The FBI, headed by James Comey, probed Clinton’s use of a private server and decided in July not to recommend charges against her.
The agency reopened the investigation after emails found on a device that belonged to Abedin and her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, a former congressman who was under investigation after being accused of sending sexually charged texts to a minor.
