With the caucus and the New Hampshire primary drawing near, Clinton is pulling 48 percent in Iowa, while Sanders is at 45 percent, the poll found. The three-percent difference, couple with the margin for error, means the race is a dead heat.
Meanwhile, in Marist’s survey of New Hampshire voters, the presidential hopefuls are almost as close. Sanders is at 50 percent while Clinton is backed by 46 percent.
On the Republican side, the Marist poll found that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz just bumped Bedford's Donald Trump, with Cruz pulling 28 percent and Trump 24 percent, in Iowa.
These numbers include, pollsters said, likely caucus-goers who are undecided but leaning toward a candidate.
In Iowa, the poll found, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 13 percent and retired surgeon Ben Carson at 11 percent.
Trump’s numbers were much better in New Hampshire. The poll found that he was at 30 percent, while Rubio hit 14 percent, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie drew 12 percent.
Other numbers from the New Hampshire poll: Cruz, 10 percent; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 9 percent; and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 9 percent.
