CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. A second affordable housing plan is coming before Chappaqua officials in the midst of an already heated discussion over the first proposal.
Scarsdale-based Mountco Construction and Development Corporation will bring its proposal for a 41,000-square-foot building at 495 King St. to the New Castle Town Board during a Tuesday night work session at Town Hall.
The building would be located in a B-R Business Residential zone next to the Chappaqua Fire Department. It would include 40 rental units for seniors, a community room, a garden, a laundry room, and 40 on-site parking spaces accessed from Memorial Drive. It would be four stories, with the fourth being a mansard roof.
The project would be for households with incomes 30 to 60 percent of the Westchester County median. Units would rent for $600 to $1,000 per month, according to the proposal dated Aug. 2, 2012.
The project would qualify as affordable housing under the Westchester County New Homes Acquisition Program, reads the proposal. And funding would be sought from New York State Homes and Community Renewal under its Tax Credits/Housing Trust Fund programs.
The units would help Westchester meet the requirements of its settlement with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, which requires that 750 units of affordable housing be created by 2016.
Tuesdays work session begins at 7 p.m., but the Town Board is not scheduled to hear the proposal until 9 p.m., according to a pre-released agenda.
