CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - A Chappaqua school was forced to enter into a precautionary lockout on Tuesday morning, as local and county law enforcement conducted a search in the community for a man suspected of larceny in White Plains.

Between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Robert E. Bell Middle School entered a lockout mode, according to Principal Martin Fitzgerald, which included keeping students inside and securing all entrances to the building as a precaution.

While the school was under its lockout protocol, Westchester County and local police conducted their search for the suspect, who was believed to have potentially been in the vicinity of the middle school campus.

According to Fitzgerald, the police investigated, conducted a check at the school and throughout town, before giving the “all-clear” that the community and school was safe. Police officials could not immediately be reached on Tuesday. Keep following Daily Voice for more information as it becomes available.
