CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – A large Chappaqua house was engulfed in flames on Wednesday afternoon as firefighters from Mount Kisco, Armonk, Millwood, Thornwood and Bedford Hills joined the Chappaqua Fire Department, New Castle police and Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps on the scene.
Firefighters had the majority of flames put down by 3:00 p.m. but were still hosing down the house.
Nicole and Bernard Berman, homeowners of the house at 33 Carolyn Place, said the home’s drier may have caused the fire that destroyed a large sum of the home's second floor.
The Bermans were home with their two children when the fire began around 1 p.m. They said they made it out of the house, along with their housekeepers, uninjured.
With the home in unlivable condition, the Bermans said they would need to find a place for their family to live.
