Former Chappaqua Teacher Harold Bischoff, 90, Dies

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Harold "Hal" William Bischoff, a former Chappaqua resident math teacher, died July 21. He was 90.

Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Walter and Emma Brueggeman Bischoff. After graduating from Akron and Ohio universities, Bischoff completed a master’s degree at Ohio State University in math and science education. 

He taught mathematics at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua for 33 years. Bischoff moved to Dublin, Ohio, 22 years ago, spending countless hours woodcarving, playing euchre and bridge and watching his grandchildren Grace, George, Melanie, Sam, Allen and Stephen grow. 

In his retirement, Bischoff volunteered many hours with Give the Kids the World, Meals on Wheels and the Dublin Food Pantry. He also served on the board of the Dublin Senior Center. 

He is survived by his wife, Constance; and two sons, Jon and Tim. His daughter, Nancy, predeceased him. 

A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Indian Run Methodist Church in Dublin.
