The meeting, which will involve the launch of Solarize Somers-New Castle, is scheduled for Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.. It will be held at New Castle Town Hall in Chappaqua.

In an announcement, the group notes that the towns were picked by an organization called Solarize Westchester to be part of a discount program for installing solar electric systems, with the objective being affordability.

The group has selected a solar contractor, Director Energy Solar, who will offer group discounts to participants. Residents and businesses are eligible for the below-market discounts, the group notes, and the deadline to sign up for installations is March 7, 2016.

The rationale for New Castle and Somers to join together for the Solarize campaign is justified, according to a position paper, due to the towns' similar demographics, along with the ability to share promotional content and other resources.

"Essentially, we felt there was a common 'look to the future' mentalities between the two towns and we both have strong environmental initiatives already on the ground," stated Alicia Molloy, who is on New Castle's Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB), a local advisory body on environmental issues.
