An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday to ascertain the cause of death, according to the medical examiner's office. The official cause of Stephenson's death, which occurred due to the car crash along Route 133, is referred to as blunt-force trauma of the body with multiple skeletal fractures and lacerations of internal organs.
Stephenson, 26, was driving a 1999 BMW traveling westbound and struck two utility poles, New Castle Police announced on Tuesday. He was not specifically named in the announcement.
A large section of Route 133 was closed off due to the accident. The affected portion, which police said was reopened on Tuesday evening, was between the intersections of Seven Bridges Road and Crow Hill Road.
