'Eye of the Tiger' Singer Leads Chappaqua Rockfest

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Rock music and the smell of barbecue filled the air Friday afternoon during the New York Rock Academy's Outdoor Rockfest.

The academy teamed up New Castle's Recreation and Parks Department to allow student and faculty bands to perform sets at the gazebo on South Greeley Avenue. The faculty band was led by former Survivor lead-singer David Bickler. Best known for the song "Eye of the Tiger," Bickler is now a Chappaqua resident.

Joining in the event was the Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce, which helped provide food from Gail Patrick's Café and Villarina's Pasta and Deli.

"They really teach kids how to rock," chamber board member Rob Greenstein said about the academy.

With the Parks Department holding a Wednesday concert series geared to adults over the summer, the rockfest was created to allow teenagers and their families to have a similar event of their own.

While the concert had to compete with high school students prepping for senior prom later on Friday evening, the event began as students from Robert E. Bell Middle School across the street were being let out.
