Ben Kingsley Film To Shoot In Chappaqua

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Chappaqua residents should be on the lookout for Academy Award-winner Ben Kinglsey later this month. He will be in town filming "A Birder's Guide to Everything," directed by Rob Meyer and produced by Chappaqua resident Dan Lindau.

Representatives from the movie met Tuesday with the New Castle Town Board, which unanimously approved a request to waive the town's film permit fee.

"This is exciting," said Councilman John Buckley, who added that the production company has agreed to pay for any costs incurred by the town.

The movie, according to its Facebook page, follows the story of high school sophomore David Portnoy, who believes he's made the discovery of a lifetime, an extinct duck. The 15-year-old then recruits his friends to join him on a quest for the mysterious bird.

The film's location manager, Kara Janezcko, went before the Somers Town Board earlier this month for a similar request to waive the filming fees.

“This is a small film, funded by grant money,” Janeczko said at the meeting. “When you consider the film world, it’s a very small crew, about 50 people. But we’d be filling our trucks with gas and we have to find restaurants to feed these people each night, so it would bring a small influx of business to the town.”

Filming is expected to begin in the area on July 23 and continue into August.
