CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- The following is a message from Chappaqua Library Director Pam Thornton regarding bedbugs.
Several times a year, as a precaution, we have a specially trained bedbug-detecting dog thoroughly examine the entire library.
During the week of June 5 to 9, the Friends of the Chappaqua Library held their used book sale in the library theater and gallery, and this event raised about $17,000.
On the morning of June 10, the dog found one bedbug outside the library among the discarded books in the trash and one on the theater stage curtain.
I am working with exterminators to treat the curtain, and it is important to know that NO BEDBUGS were found inside the library itself. (This is why we keep the book sale isolated in the theater and gallery.)
Unfortunately, there is no way to know whether any bedbugs were present during the sale, or if any made it home with our volunteers and patrons.
Please take a moment to check any books you have from the book sale.
