Meet Chappaqua's 'Dinner Guy'

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Tucked inside a corner of the Chappaqua train station sits a store waiting to serve the average commuter, with an owner who knows all too well how they feel.

Mark Grzywacz (pronounced shuh-VAHTZ) is known as “the Dinner Guy,” and he has been operating his business from inside the Chappaqua station for the last year.

Despite spending ample time serving his customers there, a good amount of his day is spent making food in Pleasantville and commuting to his location.

“I have a kitchen in Pleasantville I rent, and I truck the food over each day … I’m fighting the battle.”

Grzywacz’s said his main battle, though, is between him and his location. What can give his space its charm can be its own demise.

“I’ve got regulars who come five days a week, and maybe two to three days, they’ve walked in or ordered ahead,” he said. “They love the location. I have a lot to offer, people just have to find me.”

The summer months were particularly tough for Grzywacz. But even when the weather and lazy days were on their way out, Mother Nature struck with a right hook.

“Summer was a little slow, but we lost the business computer in the flood, it was wiped out.”

Without the computer to manage a website, the Dinner Guy will have to go by word of mouth until the computer is back on track. And while the far future for him includes a potential larger location, for now those coming off the tracks can only give hope for the future.

“The people who come off the train that find me love me,” Dinner guy said. “I mean, I’m right here!”
