All in The Family at The Chappaqua Village Market

Anthony Milazzo opened the Chappaqua Village Market in 1975, after working in the corporate food industry for the now-defunct Shop Well and Food Emporium as the director of meat operations in a chain of 120 stores.

“My father was working 70 to 80 hours a week in a 40-hour a week job,” said Anthony’s son, Vinny, who is now the manager of the Market. “After years and years of doing that, he said, 'no more,' let’s think about opening our own business.”

Now there are three generations of the Milazzo family working in the Market, with Vinny’s son, Anthony, joining the team three years ago.

“My grandfather came here and had a grocery and food store on Second Avenue and First Street. He opened it in 1914,” said Anthony Milazzo. “We had so many stores…We once had 14.”

The Milazzo family, which originates from Sicily, has been in the food industry for five generations. The Milazzos use their experience to give customers top quality meats and grocery products.

“We have pro buyers that will hand select our meats,” Milazzo said. “The reality is we have a heritage in the meat industry.”

When Anthony Milazzo opened the Chappaqua Village Market, he stuck to what he knew best, meat.

“We evolved as a butcher shop,” Milazzo said. “We evolved from butchers to produce then added the bakery. We keep adding more and more grocery items and cheeses.”

Now the Chappaqua Market offers more than 300 items to their customers, including fish, cheese, dairy products, breads, award-winning biscotti, as well as the meat that got them started in the business.

“Great products and great service is what we do here,” Milazzo said. “Everything here is unique. If you want the best quality and the best service then the Chappaqua Village Market should always be your first stop.”
