This free three-week festival features original photography, multimedia, paintings, drawings, and sculpture placed in windows and along shop walls. The festival runs through Sunday, Sept. 14.
“Think of Art Walk as a large-scale public art installation,” says Pamela Stoddart, executive director of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. “It’s a an exciting opportunity for businesses, artists and the community to interact and celebrate the creativity unique to our area.”
Art Walk kicks off Friday, Aug. 22, when participating merchants and their featured artists host opening receptions from 5 to 7 p.m.
Members of the public are invited to stroll from business to business to interact with the artists. Refreshments will be on hand at most of the locations, and live music performances by members of RMAC will take place in front of the library.
Immediately following the individual receptions on Friday, Aug. 22, the Ridgefield Guild of Artists will host an After Hours from 7 to 9 p.m. at its gallery located at 34 Halpin Lane. This party will serve as the opening reception for “Walk on Down” a festival-long exhibit featuring work from each of the participating Art Walk artists.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, from noon to 4 p.m., the Art Walk celebration will spill onto the sidewalks, with more live music, talks and live demonstrations from participating artists.
Additional special events will be held throughout the festival, including Family Night on Thursday, Sept. 4, which will feature hands-on activities for children, and Bike Night on Thursday, Sept. 11, in which the Ridgefield Bicycle Sport Club will relax after their rides by strolling the art-lined streets of Ridgefield.
