CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. A new therapeutic nursery school has joined forces with WeeZee World of Yes I Can and will soon offer its specialized services inside the Chappaqua Crossing play space.
Steps Forward NY leased out a space in the building in August and will begin a free trial of its programs on Oct. 29. The school is designed to provide support and guidance to young children working to develop language, social and academic skills.
In a nutshell, a therapeutic nursery school is meant to work with children, pre-kindergarten age, who are having some developmental delays, said co-founder Lisa Spittal. So theyre maybe not using language, maybe their motor skills are off a little bit, maybe theyre not socializing in a way a parent would like. Things like that.
Spittal founded the nursery school with Janine OConnor and Cristina Trivilino-Calov. OConnor and Spittal previously worked together at Westcop Therapeutic in Granite Springs and all three have experience working in special education.
We talked about wanting to duplicate the work experiences weve had and in our own way, Spittal said. So after talking about it for a year, we decided to just jump in and see what happened.
Classes at Steps Forward are broken into two sessions from 8:30 to 11 a.m., and 12 to 2:30 p.m. The cost of enrolling a student for a half-day session is $800 per month. The classes will have access to the entire gym and village inside WeeZee.
Spittal said the programs biggest selling point is the amount of one-on-one time they will receive from professionals. She said classes will be limited to a maximum of 12 kids, and each class will have three professionals.
The free trial runs from Oct. 29 to Nov. 16, and Spittal said there is plenty of space still open. Parents can register their children by phone at 914-413-9363 or by email at Info@StepsForwardNY.com.
