The incidents both happened in New Rochelle on Saturday evening, Oct. 5, the city's police department announced on Monday, Oct. 7.

The first of the robberies happened around 9:30 p.m., when an Edgewood Park resident was assaulted and robbed while working on his car in his Lockwood Avenue driveway.

According to police, the suspect, an unknown man wearing a black hoodie, approached the victim from behind, hit him, and stole several personal items including a gold chain, a brand-new phone, and credit cards.

The suspect is then believed to have run toward Feeney Park. The victim could not give any more identifying information to police, though.

Although authorities searched the area, no suspects were found and the stolen phone does not have any tracking information available, police said.

The second robbery happened later that evening at around 9:50 p.m., when a Hispanic man dressed in a white sweatshirt entered a smoke shop at 235 Union Ave. demanding cash.

The suspect allegedly implied to the clerk that he was armed by putting his hand in his waistband several times. When the clerk then tried calling police, the man grabbed his phone and threatened him, the department said.

No gun was actually shown during the robbery, but the suspect got away with $150 in cash. The incident was eventually reported at around 11:30 p.m. that evening when the clerk flagged down an officer.

Anyone with information about either incident or who saw suspicious activity in the area of Edgewood Park or Union Avenue is asked to contact New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.
