The watch was issued at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, and will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Friday. (The watch covers counties shown in yellow in the image above.)

A few storms may be strong or severe, with damaging winds gusts of as high as around 60 miles per hour, torrential downpours, and lightning, with 1-inch hail and isolated tornadoes possible.

"If you can hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning," the National Weather Service said. "The safest place from lightning is always indoors, so head indoors if you can when storms impact your area."

Storm activity will accompany an approaching cold front later Friday afternoon and evening.
