16-Year-Old Charged With Rape, Sex Abuse Posted Video To Social Media, State Police Say
A 16-year-old who has been charged with rape and sex abuse posted a video recording of the incident on social media, state police said.
State Police in Brewster arrested the teen on charges of first-degree rape, a Class B felony, and first-degree sexual abuse, a Class D felony, on Friday, Oct. 18.
The teen was arraigned in Putnam County Family Court and remanded to a juvenile detention facility on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
During the investigation, detectives learned that the crime was recorded and posted to social media, state police said.

A middle school teacher who worked as a substitute in the Hudson Valley, has been charged with allegedly raping a 13-year-old student.
Jonathan Pol, 28, a teacher at the Mott Hall Community School in the Bronx, was arrested at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, and charged with rape, said the New York City Police Department.
Pol reportedly worked as a substitute at numerous area schools including in the Arlington, Pawling, and Dover districts, between 2015 and 2017, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

A 25-year-old woman and her 20-year-old boyfriend have been sentenced to years in prison for the rape and sex trafficking of a teenage girl they also captured on video, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Murders, Rapes Spike In NYC Despite Lower Overall Crime Rate
The NYPD has seen a spike in rapes and murders, though overall, crime in New York City is down from this time a year ago.
Officials in Manhattan have touted the fact that overall, there is a lower crime rate, however, rapes and murders are on the rise through early March, according to the NYPD’s CompState report.
The report found that in 2019, there have been 53 murders, up 29.3 percent from last year, when there were 41 in the same timeframe. The NYPD is also reporting 307 rapes, up from 254 in 2018, a 20.9 percent increase.
