The Ossining Police Department provisionally appointed Aaron Zimmerman as its new chief in a swearing-in ceremony held on Wednesday evening, March 13, village officials announced. 2 HS Students From Westchester Place In Top 10 Of Prestigious Regeneron Competition
Two high school students from Westchester won top awards and took home tens of thousands of dollars in the country’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The two 17-year-old students, Ossining resident Thomas Cong and Irvington resident Christopher Zorn, placed No. 2 and No. 6 in the 2024 Regeneron Science Talent Search, respectively, the Society for Science announced on Tuesday, March 12. Dog Dies After Basement Blaze At Westchester Residence
A dog died following a blaze that began in the basement of a Northern Westchester home, firefighters said. The fire began on Thursday, March 7 just before 10:30 a.m. at a residence in Ossining on Somerstown Road, according to the Millwood Fire Department. Arriving crews soon found smoke coming out of the house and forced their way in, discovering that the main body of the fire was contained in the basement. A 26-year-old drunk driver faces charges following a Northern Westchester crash, police announced. Ossining resident Jorge Guaman was arrested on Saturday, March 2 following a crash in Yorktown on Route 100 in the area of Route 134 that happened just before 6:30 a.m., Yorktown Police announced on Wednesday, March 6. Town officials in Northern Westchester are asking residents to be on the lookout for a person who has been missing for several days. Jose Fernando Palta has been missing since Sunday night, Dec 17, according to a Facebook post that was re-shared by Ossining town officials on Tuesday night, Dec. 19.
