Cucd Seventh Grade Boys Win Tri-County Title

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – The Children Understanding Cultural Differences seventh grade boys’ basketball team, which includes players from Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Eastchester, finished in first place in the Tri-County Basketball League with a 12-2 record after defeating Briarcliff 54-27 Sunday in the final regular-season game.

“Going into the game we knew that Mahopac and Mount Kisco had both finished their seasons at 11-3 losses, so, we had to complete our regular season with a win or there would be a three-way tie for first place,” CUCD coach Donald Gunther said. “Being the new kids on the block, the boys wanted to claim their own title and follow last year’s team with a regular-season crown.”

CUCD led 12-7 after one quarter but built the lead to 30-12 with a 16-5 second-quarter run. Jason Douglas, who returned from an injury after missing last week’s game, finished the first half with a team-high 17 points to lead the seventh graders.

Jamon Murray scored nine points and Alex Williams, the team’s first man off the bench, added eight points to help lift CUCD to a 48-16 lead after three quarters. Zachary Tucker and Ceasar Dulanto each added six points in the game and Michael Rizzo, Christian Pinto and Isaiah Gunther each scored two points to round out the scoring.

“I was able to share with the community, some local and other church members and members of the Tuckahoe Police (Department) and the rest in attendance,” Gunther said. “I humbly accepted the recognition and enjoyed interacting with everyone. I also wanted to thank my fellow coaches Artie Allen, Daryl Taylor and Danny Belles Sr. and Shiloh Baptist Church of Tuckahoe and Deacon Murray for acknowledging me and the program.
