BRONXVILLE, N.Y. The Concordia College Clippers women's tennis team defeated Holy Family University 5-0 Saturday in semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to earn a spot in Sundays championship final.
Concordia will face Goldey-Beacom College, which defeated Chestnut Hill 5-2 in the other semifinal, today at Concordia.
The Clippers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Clara Catanzano (Sete, France) and Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) won their No. 1 match 9-8 over the duo of Jin Querubin and Juliana Victoria.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ana S.O. Mendes (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Juliana Frey (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and No. 3 doubles team of Camilla Gomes Xavier (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Maria Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia) won 8-1 in their respective matches.
In singles play, Catanzano won her No. 3 match to give a 4-0 edge in favor of Concordia. With only one match left to win in order to secure the victory, Plevako won 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-1 over Querubin.
