Many of the Clippers left the Northeast for the first time on the trip. The team flew to the Bluegrass State during the Thanksgiving break and faced a pair of tough opponents.
Up first was Kentucky Wesleyan, the 25th-ranked team in the country. The Clippers jumped out to a 17-3 lead but Kentucky Wesleyan rallied to remain undefeated in a 96-80 win.
Concordia then fought Southeastern Oklahoma State to a 94-89 overtime win. Clippers head coach Brian Sondey said the experience of the trip extended beyond the games.
"A big part of our experience was interacting with the fans from the local community, and experiencing Kentucky life. One of our pregame meals was even located at one of the top barbecue restaurants in the country," Sondey said. "This trip was an amazing experience for our program. Not only did we get to play some of the top programs in the country, but we got to experience a different piece of America."
Concordia will now enter a stretch of four conference games before it faces five Northeast-10 opponents in a row. Sondey said the two games in Kentucky should give the team confidence as it heads into the next portion of the season.
"From a basketball standpoint we learned a ton about ourselves. We stuck our noses in a tough tournament and battled for two nights,” Sondey said. ”Not only should our players be proud, but they should carry the idea that we can compete with the best of the best with them for the entire year."
