Concordia Baseball Opens Season in South Carolina

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Bronxville Concordia baseball team began its 2012 season with a four-game trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and will head to Florida to complete a southern trip that includes nine games against five teams. The Clippers are preparing for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule.

Concordia began the spring trip with four losses, but the Clippers expect improvement as the season moves on. The main goal for the season is to make the CACC playoffs after being picked to finish in fifth place according to the preseason poll. The top six teams from the regular season will advance to the tournament.

Concordia finished the season with a 16-23 (10-10 CACC) record last season, tying for sixth place in the regular season, but falling short of the playoffs because of the tiebreaker rule. This year’s squad has a total of 25 players, 12 who are new to the program.

Luis Gonzalez (Carmel) was named to the All-CACC First Team while Jason Berrios (Brooklyn) was named to the All-CACC Second Team and both are back in a Clippers’ uniform this season. Berrios led the team in batting average (.313), runs (26), steals (24), walks (21) and was second in hits (42), while Gonzalez was second in batting average (.312), walks (19) and doubles (11).

Concordia begins its conference schedule on March 17 hosting Bloomfield College at noon.
