Bronxville's Mary Cain Claims Another Championship

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville track superstar Mary Cain became the first high school student to win a national indoor or outdoor championship in a decade on Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.

According to the Associated Press, Cain’s winning time in the mile at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championship was 5:05.68, making her the first student to win a national title since Allyson Felix in 2003.

In January, Cain, 16, set a record in the mile for a high school student, running it in 4:32.78 at the Armory Track in Manhattan. The former record of 4:38.5 was set in 1972. She also set the standard in the 1,500-meter, finishing in 4:116.11, eclipsing the old record of 4:18.9, which was established in 1978.

Cain is currently the third-ranked runner in the state on tullyrunners.com.
