Bronxville's Conaton High-Point winner in Final

RYE, N.Y. -- This time Patrick Conaton would not have to share the high-point award. The 15-year-old swimmer from the Bronxville Field Club won the backstroke and freestyle to walk away with the boys’ 17-and-under high-point trophy in the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships, on Thursday.

The host, Westchester Country Club, won its second consecutive title, finishing with 857.50 points. Lake Isle Swim Team was the runner-up (748.50 points) and Greenwich Swim Team was third (748 points). Conaton finished with 55 points to win the award outright.

Last week, at the Westchester County Swimming Championships, Conaton shared the award with Raoul Rodriguez. The Fordham Prep sophomore-to-be and Bronxville resident opened with a win in the 17-and-under 100 freestyle (47.39 seconds) and then took the 100 backstroke (52.75 seconds) before finishing fourth in the breaststroke.

“The 52.75 is one of my better times,” Conaton said. “To have a good swim like that motivates you for your other races and makes you want faster times.” Conaton did not like his start in the freestyle, but compensated for it with his finish. “I went out a bit slower than I usually do,” Conaton said. “I stayed strong in the second 50 and was able to get ahead on the turns, That secured it for me.”
