Cain, who ran for the Bronxville High School cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams for three years before her prowess moved her to pursue national and international competition last year, is now at the top of her sport.
Since taking on a new coach, former Olympic marathoner Alberto Salazar, the prodigious Cain has broken several high school records, including the Millrose Games mile at the Armory in New York in February, running the distance in 4 minutes, 28.25 seconds. She was the top American finisher in a field of professional runners and second overall.
Cain also set a high school record in the two-mile run at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix and run a personal record 2:03.34, 10 seconds off the world record, in the 800 meters.
The 16-year-old star set a personal best time of 4:10.77 in the 1,500 meters last week when she became the youngest athlete to compete in an invitational event at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
