Bronxville Girls Run to Class C County Track Title

The Bronxville girls’ indoor track and field team got winning individual performances from Meredith Rizzo, Hillary Rizzo, Mary Cain and Caroline Muir and outstanding support from the relay teams to take first place in Class C and third overall in the Open Meet at the 168th Street Armory in New York City Sunday.

“A great County Championship to finish third in the Open scoring and first in Class C,” Bronxville coach Jim Mitchell said. “An excellent race by Meredith to win and tremendous efforts by Hilary and Nicola (Phillips) to hit personal records and score in the Open classification and a very nice PR by Caroline in the (race) walk.”

Bronxville earned 49 points to rank third overall behind New Rochelle (113) and Mount Vernon (57) and took first in Class C with 52 points, ahead of Valhalla (18) and Croton (16).

Meredith Rizzo ran to a first-place finish and personal record in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:55.4, the fifth best record in Westchester County history. Rizzo was followed by teammate Nicola Phillips, who placed sixth overall and second in Class C with a time of 3:11.9.

Cain raced to a first-place finish in the 3000 meters in a time of 9:50.3 followed by Emilie Hoffer with a third-place overall time of 10:43.3 and second place in Class C.

Hillary Rizzo’s time of 1:41.5 was good enough to win the Class C 600-meter run and an overall sixth place spot.

Caroline Muir walked to a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter race walk and third place overall.

Lucy Kohlhof took the Class C 600-meter run in personal-best time of 43.62 seconds and 10th overall. Jess Tighe trailed Rizzo with a time of 1:46.9 for second place in Class C and a personal best.
