BRONXVILLE, N.Y. The Bronxville High School football team will face a tough test at local rival Tuckahoe High School on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Bronxville is coming off two straight wins, a 20-14 victory against Haldane High School in week four and a 31-14 win against Pawling High School last week. The Broncos are also 2-0 in road games this season as they earned a 43-0 shutout at Hastings in week two and the aforementioned win at Haldane.
Tuckahoe played winless Haldane to a 27-27 tie on Saturday after a dominant performance against defending state champion Dobbs Ferry High School the previous week.
The Tigers were riding high on the strength of its defense after it avenged last seasons 40-0 blowout against Dobbs Ferry. But after four overtime periods, the Tigers and the Blue Devils could not determine a winner.
Tuckahoe had shut out two opponents and given up just 21 total points in its other two games before surrendering a season-high 27 points against Haldane. The Broncos will test the Tigers defense, as Bronxville has averaged 26.6 points per game this season.
Still, the Tigers have shown plenty of reasons to expect a bounce back game this week. The defense has been stellar all season with the exception of one game. The Tigers ground game continued to show strength last week as Shyheim Nixon rushed 11 times for 196 yards and one touchdown.
Nixon did not play in overtime because of an injury, but fellow senior Nick Reisman is more than capable of carrying the load for the Tigers.
The geography of the game will also add to the intensity as the schools, separated by less than two miles, have created a local rivalry. Bronxville soundly beat Tuckahoe, 33-12, in their meeting last season.
Saturdays game should be an intense battle between two local rivals as both teams need the win for different reasons. Tuckahoe is trying to cement itself as a playoff contender, while Bronxville is jockeying for position in the Class C standings.
