Bronxville Broncos Best Pirates in Homecoming

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- It was a little chilly during the Bronxville Broncos' homecoming game Saturday night but no one noticed because the Broncos were on fire and their opponents went down in flames.

The Class C Broncos bested the Class A Pearl River Pirates with a score of 37 to 6.

Although the win will not have any impact on the playoffs, the victory was significant to the team and head coach Jeff Napolitano.

"We showed everyone that we are for real," said Napolitano said. "We beat a bigger team from a bigger school. "

The Broncos offense ran all over the Pirates, who just could not seem to score on the Broncos. Just before the end of the first half, the Pirates were below the ten yard line, but could not score.

At the beginning of the second half Bronco Christian Conway ran 65 yards for a touchdown. In the third quarter, Conway sacked the quarterback, knocking the Pirates back yet again.

In the fourth quarter, Bronco Matt Tormey, intercepted a 35 yard pass from the Pirates, sealing the win.

The Broncos have not lost a game in their regular season since 2008. Last year they were the Class C state champions. The Broncos are now 7-0 this year and have won 19 straight games over the last two years in Section 1, which includes Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties.

But Pearl River is also undefeated in their class, Class A, two classes ahead of Bronxville .

In the scheme of things, the win won't change much for either team which will both move to the playoffs with homefield advantage. But the win does confirm Bronxville's skill as a team compensated for their smaller size.

"We wanted to come away from this game undefeated and we did," Napiltano said. "We fought hard to show people we really know how to play football."
