Forbes celebrated the Walk To School Movement, which was started by resident Karin Drakenberg in 2009. In four years, it has transitioned from an idea into a full-fledged, village-wide campaign.

Each year, Drakenberg and other environmentally conscious parents hang posters in stores on Main Street, reminding students and parents alike to leave the car in the garage and instead walk to school. Since it began, the movement has become increasingly popular, and it now includes buttons, stickers and its own Facebook page.

The movement has become so popular that even Police Chief Christopher Satriale has lent members of the department to the village to clear pathways for the parade of walkers making their way to school.
