Bronxville Schools Could Add Jobs, Hike Taxes 1.3 Percent

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — In a year where many Westchester school districts are cutting staff due to the state mandated 2 percent tax cap, Bronxville Schools said Thursday it will likely add staff this budget year.

The Bronxville Board of Education went with a recommendation to add at least one teacher aide for the kindergarten classes. The measure is supported by a $50,000 budget line, the district said.

Thus far, the working budget calls for a 1.5 percent tax levy hike to support the $44,291,945 spending plan.

The preliminary budgets show that residents will see a 1.3 percent tax increase if the budget gets adopted by the board in its current form.  The budget will be put to public vote May 15.

In other actions at the meeting, the board adopted the calendar for the 2012-13 school year. School is scheduled to start on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
