Eagles Cross Country Team Plans Run to Victory

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Eastchester High School Cross Country Track team will be participating in a different competition this Friday. The entire team will be competing against other sports programs in the school's annual Pep Rally. No word on what the prize is, other than bragging rights.

"We are going to do a dance to a four song mash," explained team captain Michael McGahren-Clemons.

Among the songs the team will dance to are Kanye West's "Yeah" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Each year at the homecoming pep rally, held on the Friday before the game, sports teams get to strut their stuff.

"Obviously, we will dominate the competition," predicted runner Andrew Gordineer.

The 35 member team, which has meets on Tuesdays and Fridays, has four wins and one loss so far this season.

"We have had someone from the team go to the State competitions for the last two years," said runner Michael Kenney. "We think we are going to send someone this year too."

Cross Country Track team members run between 2.5 and three miles every day, and sometimes run as many as eight miles at a single practice session. The team practices every day except Sundays.

On Saturday, they will participate in meets held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, but will be back in time for the homecoming game, where Eastchester will take on  Nyack High School. The game starts at 1 p.m.
