Bronxville Students Learn Computer Programming During Hour Of Code

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Students across Bronxville engaged in a variety of activities and coding exercises for the international Hour of Code event.

“It’s important for all students to know how to code because it is going to be the future,” said Brad Ashley, the district’s K-12 instructional technology specialist. “Most people rely on websites and computer programs to be more efficient. What we’re focused on is teaching students how to be creators rather than users. They are going to create their own code and apps rather than just use somebody else’s, and that’s putting a lot of power in the students.”

Bronxville students in kindergarten through 12th grade gained exposure to the science of programming during the Computer Science Education Week event from Dec. 7-11.

Some students felt the power of The Force during a "Star Wars"-based module called "Building a Galaxy with Code."
