The 5,994 square-foot residence at 34 Prescott Ave. is home to a duo of artists, who have added their own flavor to this historic structure built in 1898 by architect William Bates, who designed some of Bronxville’s earliest homes.

It is listed at $4,250,000.

The home retains many of its original architectural components including 17th-century balusters, bracketed eaves and embayed windows along with Juliet balconies, wooden rosettes, and a three-story stone and stucco tower with a cone-shaped roof.

The interior is decorated with installations created by one of the owners.  Its walls and ceiling boast various paintings and sculptures.

The other owner, who is an art collector, filled some of the home’s empty spaces with various art works including a collection of bronze animal sculptures and pieces picked up from countries throughout the globe including India, Mexico and Ethiopia. The home’s art also reflects the traditions of the owners’ heritage in South Africa.

Since purchasing the property in 1993, the owners have added new structural components including a kitchen extension, new chimneys, four new baths and a two-car garage.

Situated on .4 acres, the residence offers seven bedrooms including a master bedroom in the tower. It has four full and two half baths.

It also includes an exercise room, laundry and basement for an art studio or workshop.

“No one has ever decorated a house like this, as can be seen in the owners’ wholly original and creative interpretation of the home,” said Dowling. “… The result is Bronxville’s most colorful home.”
