On Monday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Karmel Mills, 40, was arraigned on a four-count indictment after he allegedly choked a neighbor to death in his Yonkers apartment.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, Yonkers Police officers responded to the apartment complex at 52 Ravine Ave., where they found the door to the victim’s apartment broken off the hinges, with Mills on top of his neighbor, choking him.
According to McCarty, the police ordered Mills off the victim and he complied, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment on a cut on his head. Police and arriving EMTs were able to briefly resuscitate the vicim - who had no pule - and he was transported to Westchester Medical Center, placed into a medical coma and attached to a ventilator.
The victim suffered from blunt force trauma, kidney and lung failure and brain damage from the attack. He was removed from the ventilator and pronounced dead on Feb. 6.
Mills has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second degree murder, and individual felony counts of first degree burglary and strangulation. He faces 25 years to life in prison. Mills was remanded to Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on Wednesday, March 30.
