BRONXVILLE, N.Y. A man shoplifted $100 worth of vitamins from a CVS store in Bronxville last week before making his getaway in a waiting Mercedes Benz, police said.
An employee told Bronxville police that, about 1:30 p.m. July 3, a tall, black man wearing jeans and a red tank top was seen stuffing vitamin packets into his pockets and running out onto Cedar Street. An employee chased the thief, who reportedly jumped into the passenger seat of a waiting black Mercedes Benz car that took off with the employee hot on his tail, police said.
Other incidents reported to police include:
Theft from a basement: Approximately 150 pounds of copper pipe and 100 pounds of Freon, all valued at about $9,700, that was being stored in the basement of 1 Pondfield Road was reported stolen about 10 a.m. July 2. The owner could not confirm to police when the items were last seen there.
Theft from a business: A Palmer Avenue business reported about 10 a.m. June 26 that a laptop computer and a lock box containing an undetermined amount of money were stolen overnight from the business, probably between 10 p.m. and 9:45 a.m. Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the business and the store alarm was not activated.
Car break-ins: About $30 was stolen from the glove compartment of a 1998 Toyota Avalon parked at 133 Pondfield Road overnight on July 1. Police said the car had been left unlocked and its alarm was not activated.
The owner of a similarly unlocked 2007 Lexus reported on June 29 that the car was rummaged through the night before while parked outside the condominiums at the same address, but nothing was taken.
Police had previously received reports of theft of about $540 in June from five unlocked cars parked overnight in Bronxville.
Property damaged: A new sliding door awaiting installation by contractors at a home at 40 Elm Rock was damaged during the night of June 28. Police said several beer cans were strewn on the property. The damage was estimated at about $200.
Attempted break-In: Two front doors to the Bronxville Womens Club at 135 Midland Ave. were damaged on the night of June 25 by someone who was unsuccessful in entering the building, police said.
Driving-related arrests: Jason Holmberg, 34, of Yonkers was arrested about 10:35 a.m. July 4 while driving on Paxton Avenue with a suspended drivers license after being stopped for driving with an expired inspection sticker, according to a police report. Officers learned the license had been suspended for lack of car insurance, the report stated, and impounded the 2003 Ford Escape he had been driving. Holmberg was released on his own recognizance pending a court hearing.
About 6 p.m. on July 7, Nazeer Ahmad, 29, of Yonkers was similarly arrested after being stopped at Studio Arcade and charged with driving a 1996 Jaguar without a valid inspection sticker. Officers determined his license had been suspended in May for failure to pay a driver responsibility fine. The car was impounded and Ahmad was released after being issued a ticket for a criminal court appearance.
