String Of Auto Break-Ins, Taxi Fare Fight Top Bronxville Police Blotter

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Police in Bronxville are investigating a string of recent auto break-ins throughout the village.

While monitoring the village’s surveillance cameras, a desk sergeant spotted a man walking on Homesdale Road entering several driveways at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 16, acting suspiciously.

Officers were dispatched to the area, and when approached, the suspect took off on foot, heading into Mount Vernon to evade the officers. A canvas of the neighborhood revealed an unlocked vehicle on Pine Terrace that had been entered, with an undetermined amount of loose change stolen.

The following week, multiple Gramatan Court residents reported to police that their unlocked cars had been entered overnight, with some reporting missing money or missing change. Police noted that each car was unlocked and no alarm was set.

The incidents are under investigation.

Other items on the Bronxville Police Department blotter from Aug. 16 through Sept. 1 include:

  • On Aug. 18, a woman at Lawrence Hospital reported to police that her iPhone had been stolen from her exam room. Police said the incident is currently under investigation.
  • Police intervention was required on shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 20, when a taxi driver reported that he required assistance with a fare that refused to pay after receiving a ride from Manhattan. Officers were able to calm the situation and stood by as the two men came to a compromise. Police noted that no crime was committed.
  • The following day, police were dispatched to Parkway Road, where a resident reported that a red Trek mountain bike valued at $750 was stolen from his property overnight.
  • Detectives are investigating a case of identity theft after a woman reported that five fraudulent purchases totaling $860 were made at various locations using his credit card information.
