Tuckahoe Police: Driver Nabbed in Stolen Car

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. -- An Yonkers man is facing multiple charges after police said they caught him driving a stolen car in Tuckahoe earlier this week.

Tuckahoe Police Lt. Ray Stabile said an officer was on routine patrol when he heard a loud crash on Feb. 27 at 5:18 p.m. When the officer arrived on the scene he found a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 crashed into a telephone pole on Garrett Road. The officer said he found the driver, Louis Kucharczyk, 56, of Yonkers, unresponsive behind the wheel.

The officer determined Kucharczyk was asleep and when the driver was woken up, he became combative, police said. A check of the license plate revealed the car had been reported stolen in Yonkers on Feb. 23.

Kucharczyk was charged with third degree possession of stolen property, a class D felony, driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and driving with a suspended license, also a misdemeanor. Police said they determined that there is an outstanding warrant for Kucharczyk from Yonkers.

Kucharczyk was remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail while waiting for a court date.
