Tuckahoe Kindergartners Celebrate Graduation

Outgoing Tuckahoe Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Yazurlo got emotional as he presided over his last kindergarten graduation at William E. Cottle Elementary School Monday morning.

"Everyday take a moment to read," Dr. Y told the students. "When you read you can go anyplace in the world and hear about the dreams of men and women, it's an amazing gift."

Dr. Y, who got choked up when he spoke of his son's wedding, and his daughter's award of a Ph.D this past year, reminded parents about the importance of these occassions. " Don't let these moments get by you," he said.

The parents and friends of 97 students celebrated the day with songs, cookies and juice and a few words from school and districts administrators.

"I am very proud of you, how smart you are and how nice you all look today," Principal George Albano told the class.

Assistant Superintendent Anthony DeCarlo, who was principal of Cottle Elementary School when the kids started school last year, and who is now in charge of special education and sports among other areas at the district level also told the students how proud he is of them. DeCarlo reminded parents that in no time at all they will be back in the auditorium watching these same kindergarteners grown up and graduating fifth grade.

The students will continue at Cottle entering first grade in the fall.
