TUCKAHOE, N.Y. If you lived and worked in Tuckahoe in 2011, you were not a robbery victim. You also were unlikely to have been a burglary or assault victim, and you probably did not have your car stolen.
According to Tuckahoe's recently released 2011 crime statistics, there were no robberies, rapes or murders in the village. There were two vehicle thefts, six assaults and six burglaries.
The 2011 police report is available on the police department's website.
Police chief John Costanzo said, "There's been no spike in recent years" in any crime areas. "In fact, we have one of the lowest crime rates in Westchester County."
In fact, calls for service dropped in 2011 to 3,554, down from 2010's 3,799 and 2009's 3,776. That includes 27 fewer motor vehicle accidents and 18 fewer fires, along with 11 fewer drug offenses six this year compared with 17 in 2010. In 2009, there were 42 drug offenses.
Fraud and identity theft were down last year, with 21 reported cases compared with 34 in 2010.
On the highways, more people were buckling up with seat belt citations dropping to 130 from 194 in 2010 and 236 in 2009. Mobile phone use citations dropped from 181 to 122. In 2009, the total was 264.
According to Tuckahoe Mayor Steve Ecklond, the proposed police budget for 2012-2013 is $2.9 million, more than one-quarter of the entire village budget of $11.3 million but up less than 2 percent from the current year, with mandatory salary increases accounting for most of the total.
