BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Ellen Reich does not seem like the kind of person who would interrupt a conversation. Neither does Suzanne Bender. But both of these Bronxville residents interrupted pastry chef Marianna Delgado Gambini as she spoke about her store, Chantilly Patisserie, on Thursday morning.
"Excuse me," Reich called out. "Everything in this shop is delicious and I mean everything."
Bender chimed in.
"Oh my gosh, this is absolutely amazingly beautiful, so good," gushed Bender about the raspberry almond Danish she was devouring.
Gambini and her sister Maria and their mom Mirta opened Chantilly Patisserie, located on Parkway Road almost exactly a year ago. In fact, anyone who comes in any day this week up until Sunday will get a free mini-cupcake as part of the celebration.
Gambini said customers who say "Happy Birthday" when they are checking out will get a 25 percent discount on their purchase.
"But they have to say it when they are getting checked out," Gambini said.
Gambini was working as a pastry chef at the Westchester County Club in Rye when her mom asked her and her sister if they would consider opening the shop in Bronxville.
Gambini had studied culinary arts at Johnson and Wales, in Rhode Island. Her sister Maria, had gone to art school at SUNY Buffalo.
"Since our very first day, Maria has been in the kitchen doing all of the cake decorating and sculpting," Gambini said. "She has done an amazing job."
With her daughters in the kitchen, mom Mirta handles everything else from the counter to shopping.
"We all pitch in, but we all have our things that we do best," Gambelli said.
With a year at their location, the Gambini's hope to make more cupcakes, breads, and custom designed cakes.
"We are very happy to be here," Gambini said. "We have wonderful customers and support from the community. We look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries."
