TUCKAHOE,N.Y. Pouring rain and hail did not stop local kids from coming to the monthly pajama story time held Monday night at the Tuckahoe Library.
The crowd was smaller than usual but Jack Pennachio, 5 and his little sister Ave, 3 were there ready to hear Miss Ellen read to them.
"My son loves having stories read to him," said Jack's Mom Nancy. "My daughter is a little more restless."
Childrens Librarian EllenTannenbaum said that she does pajama story time once a month all year round.
"I usually choose five books, but I let the kids decide if they want to hear all of them or if they only want to hear one or two," Tannenbaum said.
Tannenbaum said local kids have also been participating in the Summer Reading Program, One World Many Stories, which began in June.
"We have about 140 kids signed up to the program that have read anywhere from one to 70 books so far," Tannenbaum said.
Participants in the program can read as many books as they like and on whatever topics they choose. They are required to keep track of their titles, and for every five books they read are able to collect a prize.
"We have given out water bottles, t-shirts, and beach balls, : Tannenbaum said.
The program will end next week with two special programs, one for listeners under the age of four held on August 12 and a second on August 19 for readers age four and up.
"We have great surprises in store for the kids to celebrate a great summer filled with reading," Tannenbaum said.
