Endless rewards and work is how outgoing Tuckahoe Board of Education member Sheree Raho described her nine-year tenure on the board.
"It was lots of hard work, but watching all of these kids here tonight makes me feel like it was worth it," she said. "We must have done something right."
Raho's last meeting was filled with students who won awards for sports, music, and poetry.
One of those students was Raho's daughter Kelly, a sophomore, who won an award for chorus.
Member Patrick Gallo also attended his last meeting on Monday night. He also spent nine years on the board. Gallo andf Raho opted not to run for re-election in May.
Seated at the board table with the outgoing members were newly elected trustees Michelle Liscio and Jim Lombardi.
Lombardi, 48, has one child in Tuckahoe schools, a fourth grader at William E Cottle School.
"I am very excited about being on the board," he said.
Liscio, 45, has three children in the middle school and high school.
"Tonight is just an example of all of the things we do so well, " she said, referring to the awards celebration. "I really want to engage in the process and work to enhance and continue to be accountable to the taxpayers and provide the quality education we see in our schools."
The board members meet several times a month and are not paid for their time, They are responsible for setting policy and creating the district's budget.
Raho offered some advice for the new members. "You will work lots of hours, and you won't always be popular, but seeing the kids makes it all worth it," she said.
