EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Maintenance at Lake Isle Golf course was privatized in a unanimous vote at last weeks village board meeting.
The Eastchester Town Board will hire California-based Valley Crest Course Maintenance Inc., for $888,000 for a two-year period. In the third year of the agreement, the price will raise by either 4 percent or by the dollar amount of the consumer price index, whichever is the lesser amount.
The town was spending $1.2 million for nine seasonal employees to maintain the 3-acre park, which features an 18 hole golf course.
"We will save $280,000," said Trustee Glenn Bellitto. "We have had good recommendations about Valley Crest and they will buy some of our equipment and have invited our workers to apply for jobs with them."
Valley Crest will be responsible for mowing the lawn and monitoring the irrigation on the course among other duties. They have agreed to purchase some of the town-owned grass cutting equipment for approximately $60,000.
Eastchester Supervisor Anthony Colavita first mentioned the idea of privatizing the maintenance at the park during the December budget process. In order to stay within the state mandated 2 percent tax cap, the town board wound up cutting 14 jobs in total.
The park also features tennis courts, five pools and a privately owned and operated catering hall that hosts the year-round Eastchester Senior Citizens program five days each week.
