The former corrections employee was sentenced to up to seven years in prison earlier this week for helping two convicted murderers escape from an upstate prison in early June.
Mitchell admitted to smuggling hacksaw blades, chisels, a punch tool and a screwdriver into the prison for David Sweat and Richard Matt. The subsequent manhunt cost New York State $23 million in overtime costs alone.
Authorities shot and killed Matt during the manhunt on June 26. Sweat was shot and wounded two days later. He is serving life in prison without parole.
