Eastchester Hosts Halloween Window Decorating

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Town of Eastchester kicked off Halloween weekend with the annual window decorating event held at the Vernon Hills Shopping Center located on the Eastchester/Scarsdale Border.

Sponsored by the Eastchester Department of Recreation, the event invites kids to decorate store windows with washable markers in celebration of Halloween.

Cindy Mazza, who owns Victor Balestri Salon, said she looks forward to watching the kids decorate the windows of her store each Halloween. "We enjoy seeing the children being creative," Mazza said. "We are all about being creative here."

Six-year-old Celia Rizzo and her brother Leo were hard at work Wednesday afternoon. With mom, dad and grandparents looking on, Celia drew a haunted house, a witch and a Halloween Horse. Leo was also busy with black and orange markers.

"I like doing this," said Celia, who is going to be Sleeping Beauty for Halloween. Leo will be a fireman.

No word on whether or not Celia and Leo will march in the annual Ragamuffin Parade. The parade, also sponsored by the recreation department, will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Participants will meet at the Eastchester Middle School and march to Town Hall. The Eastchester Little League will provide snacks and costumes will be graded in several categories.

The parade is open for kids from pre-K through sixth grade and every participant will receive a goody bag.
