The lounge chairs are stacked and ready. The snack bar has been stocked. Most importantly, the lifeguards have been trained, tested and certified.

So town officials are hoping residents grab a beach towel and some sun block and visit Lake Isle, the Eastchester Town recreation center located on White Plains Road.

Anyone who lives in the town of Eastchester, the village of Bronxville or the village of Tuckahoe can become a member of the 116-acre facility.

The grounds boast an 18 hole golf course, with 70 golf carts, and eight Har-tru tennis courts. Private lessons and clinics are available for both sports.

But by far the most popular part of Lake Isle are the five swiming pools. There are two kiddie pools, one pool for anyone 18 years of age or older, a diving pool and an Olympic size pool.

Facility assistant manager Jay Maxwell explained the lifeguards patrol the pools at all times. "They rotate every 15 minutes and after one hour take a break," he said. The rotation is designed to keep the lifeguards perspective fresh and to make sure they are not overheated . "We are all about the kids here, and we are all about safety," he said.

One of most popular programs at the pool is the Swim and Dive team which hosts approximately 215 kids between the ages of 6 and 17.

"Kids come from all over to join our club just so they can swim on the team," said mom Jill Staffin. The kids have already begun to practice, and can spend up to 2 hours a day, five days a week getting ready for competitions at Lake Isle and throughout Westchester.

The pool is self-sustaining, meaning the fees residents pay to join support the budget. Still, Maxwell notes, there are approximately 25,000 residents in the town, and only about 5000 are members.

It is not to late to join the club where there is a variety of membership packages available.

The Swim and Dive team is also still open to new members.

"We are hoping to see many more of our residents here enjoying their summer with us," Maxwell said.
