EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sheila Marcotte (R,C,I Eastchester, Tuckahoe and New Rochelle) knocked on 6,000 doors last spring and fall to win her election to continue representing District 10 in the Westchester County Board of Legislators.
For 11 days after the election, there was no clear winner in the face-off between Marcotte and Democratic challenger John Fitzpatrick. While waiting for word that she had won back her seat with a margin of 47 votes, Marcotte continued working. With the election process behind her for two years, Marcotte shared her priorities for 2012 with The Daily Eastchester.
TDE: What are your hopes for the county this year?
SM: I am hoping that the new composition of the BOL will allow for more transparency, more bi-partisan initiatives and that the ideas and efforts of all of the legislators will be recognized. While much was accomplished last year, there could have been much more achieved through legislation and money saving ideas.
TDE: Is there a special project in one of your districts that you are working on?
SM: Scout Field, located in the Town of Eastchester, Village of Bronxville, is long overdue an upgrade. This field has been slated for improvements in the past and I am hopeful that this year we will see this come to fruition.
TDE: Are you pleased at the outcome of the county budget?
SM: While certainly I am pleased that the County of Westchester realized a zero tax increase for the 2nd year in a row, there are some disappointing things that were approved in the 2012 budget, such as the legislator earmarks, AKA pork, which once again found its way into the pages of the budget. It continues to be unacceptable and mind boggling that the majority of the BOL can even suggest that this trend continue in what can only be described as an incredibly difficult economic landscape.
TDE: Although it is very hard to choose, are there one or two organizations or groups you hope will get more attention and support this year?
SM: With the budget and election behind me, I hope to concentrate a great deal of effort on the Eastchester Historical Society and the Marble School House. Historical Society VP AnnMarie Flannery and I will be working on a few fundraisers and activities in an effort to continue to promote the rich history of the Town of Eastchester. Additionally I am excited to be involved in the steering committee for the 350th anniversary of the Town of Eastchester, albeit, two years away. Plans and efforts are well under way as we begin to prepare for that celebration under the direction of Committee Chair and Town Clerk Linda Doherty
