TUCKAHOE, N.Y. A routine traffic stop Wednesday morning set off a chain of events that landed a Yonkers man in Westchester County Jail awaiting extradition to Atlantic County, N.Y. to face felony charges.
According to Tuckahoe Police Department Lt. Margaret Belles, Adam Salerno, 30, of Tuckahoe, was stopped at about 8:25 a.m. and was found to be driving on a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Police also found marijuana, according to the police report. Salerno was arrested, issued a summons and released on $200 bail.
Salerno's father, Frank Salerno, arrived at the police station at 10 a.m. to post bail and retrieve his son's car, Belles said. Police ran a license check, a routine procedure before police release a car to anyone. The check turned up a warrant from Atlantic County, N.J. Belles said the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office was contacted and said it would extradite the elder Salerno, leading Tuckahoe police to charge him with being a fugitive from justice. Frank Salerno, 61, of Yonkers, was held without bond pending extradition.
Belles said Salerno faces charges in Atlantic County of theft by deception and knowingly passing bad checks, both felonies.
